NIFS BikePort

Test

The National Institute for Fitness and Sport, in partnership with White River State Park opened the NIFS BikePort in the fall of 2007.

NIFS BikePort contains secure bike lockers that house 12 bikes, as well as additional outdoor bike racks where cyclists can park and enjoy the White River State Park, get a workout or take the Red Line circular to their workplace or events downtown.

There is a yearly $5.95 service fee to use the park-by-phone system which can open any secure bike locker in the Indianapolis area or the country. It also allows use of car parking services throughout the country where it is available.

The NIFS BikePort at White River State Park became possible through a partnership with the city of Indianapolis and a Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant TE. It was a recipient of a Facade Improvement Program Grant, which was funded by Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association (IRMCA) is a major contributor to the project and our lead contractor, Smock Fansler, has been the catalyst for the concrete and pervious concrete work.

Additional BikePort Partners include the City of Indianapolis; INDOT; IUPUI; Central Indiana Commuter Services; IndyGo; Indianapolis Downtown Inc.; Mussett, Nicholas & Associates; Ratio Architects; Greenways; and INShape Indiana.

The trail portion of NIFS BikePort is made with pervious concrete - an environmentally friendly pavement that reduces run-off. For more information on pervious concrete, please contact Cheri Wagner at 317.872.6302 at the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association.
